Good Friends, Good Food, Good Wine

Sunday Supper is about 3 of my favorite things coming together in one place. Good Friends, Good Food, Good Wine. All in my kitchen once a month in 2010. It makes Sunday my favorite day of the week, and it is filling my very first condo with memories to last a lifetime. Sunday Supper is the inspiration and starting point for this blog, but it is far from being the only point. As with the Sunday Supper that takes place in my kitchen each month, I hope you stop by for the food, but find you want to stay for so much more. Enjoy!

guilty pleasure

Three letters.  B.L.T.  Bacon (surprise, surprise), lettuce, tomato.  On grilled texas toast, light on the mayo, it must be REAL mayo, and extra tomato.  I certainly won't claim that I have only one guilty pleasure - life is too short!! - but a well-made BLT is pretty darn high on the list.  The very best is with lettuce and tomato from grandpa's garden.

In a pinch, the BLT from Sonic drive-in will more than suffice.  First admission:  I ate one on Saturday on the drive from Chicago to Kansas.  (For those of you who don't know Sonic, I should tell you that they also have the best ice.  Yes, ice.  Call me weird, but I know several other midwesterners who stand behind me.)  Second admission:  my sister brought lunch home today and guess what?!  Sonic BLT.  YES!!  We hadn't talked about BLTs or my stop on Saturday.  When she asked if I wanted lunch, I said "sure, bring me whatever you are having".  Apparently some things run in the family.  :)

Two Sonic BLTs in three days ... good thing I brought my "traveling gym"!!

mac and cheese

I'm lucky to still have all 10 fingers. So Megan tells me. We popped into a tapas restaurant a few nights ago and had a mac and cheese dish that was beyond words. Literally. Once it was placed on table, I'm fairly certain no words were spoken between us until one forkful remained and Megan said "Are we going to have to fight for the last bite?" I graciously let her enjoy that final noodle.

What made it so amazing? One word. Bacon.

I share the theory of many - everything (well, almost) is better with bacon. If you keep following my blog, you'll likely read plenty more on this topic.

In the meantime, if you are in the mood for some out of this world, mouth-watering, absolutely to die for mac and cheese, head to Twist tapas restaurant and order the mac and cheese a la twist. (You might even see Megan and I there; pretty sure this won't be one time thing.) noodles, bacon, red pepper, monterey jack baked together so it's just a little crispy on top. YUM!
