Though I didn't write much about food while I was away, believe me when I say it certainly was not because I didn't eat much. Holy cow. We definitely erred more on the side of overindulging. (Which could explain why I thought I might die at boot camp this morning!) It was a week of eating and drinking like I have not had since .... well, possibly Argentina, but more likely back to South Africa. 6 months ago. I hope it's more than 6 months before I do this to myself again. Don't get me wrong, it was all FABULOUS!! Unfortunately, the detox is brutal once you hit the glorious 3-0. You'd think I would have learned that in the past nearly 2 years. Oh well, some things aren't worth remembering when there is so much great food to try in so little time! :)
Dallas kicked off with champagne on the patio with Jill upon arrival. I won't say exactly how much champagne, suffice it to say it wasn't only one glass. Next up, a cute Italian spot (can't remember name), R&D Kitchen, Taco Diner, Nick & Sam's Grill, and Bolsa. Then on to Austin for The Belmont, Muck n Dave's Texas BBQ (food trailer!), Hula Hut, Ranch 616, Hut's Hamburgers, Jeffrey's, and some other taco bar. And I think I just gained another 5 pounds thinking about it all again.
I only have 2 pictures of the food. I must have been preoccupied with other things. Or a little fuzzy from the drinks that accompanied most of those meals. But, hey, it was vacation - isn't that what it's all about?!
Here we have some mighty delicious Texas BBQ, straight from a food trailer. And then fried oysters, two ways, at Jeffrey's. Did I mention that they fry almost everything in Texas?
Trip was a blast, but glad to be home and back to my normal eating habits. Wishing I had my very own scooter though! (Thanks for taking me for a spin, Andrew!)
